Two Spaniards bringing much-needed youth to the ADV scene
European and North American motorcycling has a problem that it doesn’t seem to be able to solve. The problem is that of an ageing demographic. The vast majority of riders aren’t becoming less passionate, riding less, or even spending less, they’re just getting older as a group, with very little new blood joining, compared to much of the last century.
These two huge markets have struggled to attract new riders from younger generations for decades now. That’s not great for the long-term future of motorcycle manufacturers who rely on selling bikes to enthusiasts (not just commuters). So, when we spotted a couple of young Spaniards exploring their home country on Husqvarna Norden 901s, they caught our attention.
Pau and Pablo call themselves Twin Travel ADV. They are 24, both born in the year 2000 (some Kriega customers have backpacks they bought from us that are older than that and still in regular use…).
The pair live in Barcelona, and Twin Travel is a side-hustle for them. ‘The main idea is to share all our adventures, and how we enjoy our motorbikes, with others. We've developed a kind of business plan to grow organically, so that any of our followers can feel like part of the community we're building,’ says Pau. The pair have been riding since they were just four years old, introduced to motorcycles by their families at an early age, and never stopped riding.
Twin Travel began sharing photos and videos on Instagram, but soon felt constricted by that social media platform, so they also began posting ‘vlogs’ on YouTube.
‘We started a few months ago because some people wrote to us saying they wanted to see longer videos and suggested we create a YouTube channel. We set it up and started filming our days on the road so viewers could see more of us. It’s quite time-consuming, since it’s not our main source of income, so we work on it whenever we have time after our day jobs.’
Witness the abuse the hard-riding pair inflict on their bikes and it’s a great advert for the Husqvarna’s biggest adventure bike. Pau says he can’t fault the Norden on or off-road, though he does admit, ‘Reliability isn't its strongest suit, but when it comes to handling, the bike is perfect for us.’
Twin Travel have huge expanses of Northern Spain to explore. ‘We like to Visit Kuko Hotel and explore all around the Basque Country. It’s a place that defines us a lot and it’s not too far from home.’
When asked for their favourite route, it’s not much of a surprise when Pau replies, ‘I can’t tell you so much about route… We always improvise it.’
